Complicated weekend for us. Luck was simply not on our side. We had a complicated qualifying session which didn’t go as planned with the strategy and tire pressures. Track limits from the circuit were also an issue, as my teammate’s best time and mine have been both called off. We ended up much lower on the starting grid than expected.
Unfortunately, we had a mechanical failure in Race 1. The suspension broke on one of the corners, so I didn’t even get in the car. We were very hungry to fight back for our positions after we lost them due to the penalties in qualifying. We wanted more; the car was perfectly set up to get at least a Top 5 in the Silver class. This DNF is also disappointing, as it gets a bad impact on our championship position.
I took the start on Race 2 under difficult conditions due to heavy rain. It was the first time for me with the Aston Martin GT under the rain with slick tires. The pace was good in the first half of the stint. But when the track started drying, our chassis configuration didn’t suit. My teammate had issues getting grip with the car, who had setup for wet conditions.
Disappointed weekend, no points scored, but our motivation to fight back still there and is even greater. The next round of the championship will take place in Nürbürgring from 3rd to 5th September.
